The Office of the Electoral Officer is thrilled to announce exciting new updates for Candidates Night 2021. As times move forward, so does technology; Candidates Night will now be available LIVE for viewing over the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke Facebook platform while simultaneously broadcast for listening on K1037 Radio.
With the aid of teleconferencing, all candidates will have five (5) minutes to speak to the community.
There will be a question and answer period after all candidates have spoken. Community members wishing to ask/submit questions for candidates can do so by submitting their questions during the broadcast on the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke’s Facebook page or by calling the phone number that will be provided on air that night.
“The most exciting part about this new update is that more community members will have access to viewing Candidates Night LIVE than ever before,” said Electoral Officer Angus Montour. “Previously, we were restricted to however many people could safely occupy the venue.”
Candidates Night will be held the evening of Wednesday, June 23rd at 6pm. All candidates’ speeches will also be available for viewing on the Kahnawà:keTV YouTube Channel and the Community Channel on Paul Communications after the LIVE event.
Due to the current state of the COVID-19 Pandemic and the existing measures in place by the Kahnawà:ke COVID-19 Task Force regarding in-person events, it was determined by the Electoral Officer to pursue this event in this fashion – offering the community access to the candidates’ platforms, while ensuring health and safety for all involved. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
